2019 Latino Health 5K Walk/RunName: 2019 Latino Health 5K Walk/RunDate: August 24, 2019Time: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDTEvent Description:With a focus on health and wellness promotion, the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its first Annual Latino Health 5K Run/Walk in September of 2015.
The goal was to encourage Hispanic families to maintain a healthy lifestyle and incorporate physical activity, such as running or walking, into their daily lives. Chronic illnesses such as diabetes and high cholesterol, affect minority groups at an increased rate, which has been attributed to poor diet and lack of exercise.
We believe by showcasing the fun side of physical activity through a family-oriented 5K walk and run, participants can feel energized and prepared to continue striving toward better overall community health. The run/walk begins and finishes at Roosevelt Park and winds through Grandville Avenue and surrounding park area.
Just four years after the first Latino Health 5K, we had over 400 participants in 2018 and our goal remains centered on elevating the health of the Hispanic community. While the event is geared towards the Latino
community, we invite all of West Michigan to support in our endeavor to promote healthy habits and a balanced lifestyle. Funds raised for and during this event allow us to continue our initiatives that promote the economic advancement of Hispanic owned businesses.
