    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY:  Litigation Project Assistant (Grand Rapids)

     

    Under general supervision of litigation attorneys and paralegals, perform a variety of duties, some of which may be billable.  Organize and maintain case files, conduct research, summarize articles and create reports. Maintain confidentiality in all firm and client matters.  Keep accurate time records. This is a full-time, project-based position, with the expectation of the position lasting up to a year, possibly longer.

     

    ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS:

    This position reports to Human Resources.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Review and analyze data to assist in preparation of cases for trial

    • Utilize computerized litigation techniques and software when applicable

    • Perform assigned legal research tasks using all available resources, including libraries and computer data systems

    • Provide project status reports to attorneys and paralegals

    • Miscellaneous office tasks

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

    Education:

    The ideal candidate would be someone who has completed some undergraduate coursework and is considering a career in the legal field.

    Experience:

    Solid work history demonstrating dependability and resourcefulness.  Previous customer service experience helpful.

    • Self-starter

    • Flexible

    • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail

    • Ability to determine work priorities and complete them under time constraints

    • Effective communicator with department management, attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, and support staff

    • Ability to thrive in a team environment, as well as work independently

     

    Preferred Skills:

    • Proficient in MS Office Suite
